How do I tell if Im allergic to an antibiotic? Im taking Clindamycin and when i do, i have a little chest pain associated with heartburn, every single time I take a dose. As far as I know, im not allergic to any medicine. and this is my second time taking it with the same episodes. I get a little dizzy as well, but i think thats a small side effect.
Hope replied: "you should have received a list of side effects when you filled the pre ion.Call the pharmacist, they will know if you should stop taking it and have the doctor prescribe a different antibiotic for you."
Monkey replied: "Ask your doctor who gave you this medicine."
halodude33 replied: "I'm going to guess your experiencing a side effect, not having an allergic reaction to this antibiotic."
dwp_hornblower replied: "stomach ache, dizziness, heart burn are not allergies.
Allergies are hives, rashes, swelling, unable to breath; things along those lines.
I love getting the patient who is allergic to a medication because it made them have an upset stomach. It's not an allergy, it's a side effect."
veronicawilliams1969 replied: "i would definitely tell my doctor asap if chest pain is occuring if it is questionable go to the er. most people get a rash in the back of the neck or all over and hives, itching. read the insert provided"
Level 5 copy & paste replied: "You can be allergic to Clindamycin and it can have wide range of side effects. Do not use this medication if you are allergic to clindamycin or lincomycin.
In case of any uneasiness by taking this antibotic you should tell your doctor immediately and he may treat with some other medication.
The general side effects of Clindamycin are - Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Just got prescribed clindamycin phosphate topical solution for my acne. Im pregnant, should I take it? I was just prescribed clindamycin phosphate medication for my pregnancy acne. Im 4 months pregnanct & have really bad pregnancy acne. 1st trimester it was just my face that was broken out. Now it is spreading to my chest, shoulders & back. I have been talking to my OB at my check-ups & he said that if he gets worse he would prescribe me something. SO today, he prescibed my the Clindomycin. He did tell me that no medicines are 100% safe while pregnant. So now, Im unsure if I should use it. Has anyone used Clindamycin while pregnant. If so, how are your childs teeth? Dr said that it can cause their teeth to rot? Any advice. Thank you!! ~Melissa
Dani V. replied: "I think you shouldn't take it if you feel uncomfortable about it. I've heard that topical acne meds can be iffy. You may want to stick to the normal acne face wash twice a day and acne wash in the shower for you body acne. I had bad acne during pregnancy, oh well I say, it's an appearance thing, I wouldn't risk it."
charlie replied: "I used evoclin - topical cream - and finacea (also topical)
Both dermatologist and obgyn said they were category B medications and that they were safe to use during pregnancy.
Even though they said it was safe - I still didn't use it as often as they said I should. I really only used it to get things under control and then I'd stop. I figured even if it is safe I don't want to be using it every day - I guess just in case!
I would ask your obgyn what category the medication is - if it's B you are okay - if it's C don't take it."
How long does novo-clindamycin take to being taking effect? I have a cavity which turned into a painful infection. Because im allergic to penacilin, I was prescribed novo-clindamycin to be taken 4 times a day (every six hours) and I will be taking by 6th pill at 11pm tonight, but I have not noticed any decrease in the swelling or pain yet. How long does it normally take for the swelling to start going down? At what point do I need to call the dentist and let her know that the medication is not helping?
RDH replied: "Penicillin is the fastest acting antibiotic for dental infection. Since you are allergic, clindamycin was prescribed, which is slower-acting. It may take about 3 days before you get relief. It is important to finish the entire course of antibiotics. Many people stop taking them when they start to feel better. But that doesn't mean the infection has been knocked it. It can come back even worse! I hope you feel better soon; you should."
Does anybody know how long does Clindamycin lasts in your system? I took my last dosage this afternoon @ 1pm (clindamycin 150mg 2 capsules) I want to breastfeed my baby & im not sure if it's safe to do so yet = ???
I never did find out how long it stays in your system; but i did researched the risks of breastfeeding while taking this medication & it looks like it's moderately safe to breastfeed while taking clindamycin. It's not proven 100% safe, but also there's no evidence of risk in humans. This website gives more details:

blue replied: "dang, I don't know, but this seems too soon,,,,,most things need at least 24 to 48 hours to get out of your system. Skip tonight, and call your pediatrician in the morning,,,,,or look on a search, for breastfeeding links,,,,,,,,,,,,I breastfed my kid, and I ended up having my milk dry up by having to be on antibiotics for so long.....I should have used a pump, to keep my milk active while I was doing it, but throw the milk away, until safe!..........I know the temptation to quiet a crying baby,,,,,,,,but better safe than sorry!,,,,,,,search the internet for breastfeeding sites....."
low fever and diarrhea from antibiotic Clindamycin? a few days ago, i went back to my oral surgeon because my gum near the extraction sites were swollen and was prescribed clindamycin for it. today is the fifth day, and im running a low fever since night as well as diarrhea. should i stop taking clindamycin if this happens?
mytwodogs60463 replied: "call your pharmacy and tell him what's happening as they can tell you what to do."
CDA~NY replied: "Diarrhea is a common side effect, but a low fever is not... call the OS and ask for something else...
And where is the Patient Pre ion Information sheet you should have gotten from the pharmacy (free) when you had this filled??? The possible side effects are listed on it...."
Jen H replied: "The fever is more likely to be due to the gum infection than the clindamycin. Diarrhoea on the other hand is a VERY common side effect of Clindamycin and no, you shouldn't stop taking it, continue it until you have completed the course, but have some prebiotic/probiotic yoghurts or yoghurt drinks to replace the healthy bacteria in your gut."
Clindamycin for strep throat? im on Clindamycin for strep throat because im allergic to amoxicillion. Im going to a party tomorow night. i want to be able todrink..at least a little..can i?
g6ypk replied: "If you want to be ill, then yes. Otherwise INDEED NOT.
Dr Antony"
LINDA R replied: "No. You should never drink alcohol while taking medication. The combination of alcohol and some medications is very dangerous, and can make you extremely ill. In other cases, medications may not work as well if you drink alcohol."
Ive been having trouble with Clindamycin? I've had a really bad tooth infection that I've been taking pills for since the beginning of august well my dentist prescribed Clindamycin for me. I don't know if its just me but if feels like im having trouble breathing, i got really dizzy the first time i took it and then the other day i took it and went back to bed with out food and it burned my throat really bad that i got up and hour later and ate and drank more water now it hurts every time i swallow.
im also allergic to penicillin if that has anything to do with it. but i told my dentist that ive only been taking it since Friday.
Dorothy H replied: "Get off of it NOW !! if you've a little benadryl get a dose of that in you.
You're having an allergic reaction.
Call your dr. or get to the e/room."
arizonabrat replied: "I have taken this med many times and all I can say is although I have never felt dizzy the burning in the throat is normal just be careful when swallowing try drinking some milk with it becuz it is the best medicine for teeth problems"
bill replied: "this drug is used for realy bad infections caused by bacteria, it is used when normal antibiotics don't work, do not take them on an empty stomach. call your doc. and let him know about this."
SavvySue replied: "You could be allergic to this antibiotic as well or you could be experiencing the symptoms of the infection for which you are taking the antibiotic. See your doctor and or dentist."

My sister needs to get a root canal or extract a molar... but im not sure what antibiotic she should use...? we went to two diff. dentists and they both gave us a diff antibiotic to use. one is Clindamycin 300 mg and the other Erytrhomicin 250 mg not sure if thats how its spelled. my mothers not sure which one she should give her. shes 16 years old ad has allot a pain, comes and goes. the doctor is closed now so shes not sure what to do??? Thank you
were switching dentists now and the one were going to now is closed today..
Don E replied: "Call your dentist for consultation. Why two different dentists ?"
dianne b replied: "Tell her to take the Erythromycin, and tell her to take them until they are gone or the infection could come back and even spread to other teeth in the area. I had a root canal at 8 and I know all too well the pain she must be in."
milizapp replied: "1st of all, antibiotics are to preven infection, and will do nothing for her pain. the safest bet is tylanol for pain as needed and still take one of the antibiotics to prevent infection."
