How Much Does Clomid Cost in Q&A
how much does clomid cost? How would to go about getting a pre ion for it? I'm a very healthy 30 year old, who gets all of the needed yearly test & have never had anything come back ab-normal. My husband & I have been trying to get pregnant for over a year now. We know everything works because we have a 3 year old. I'm just not having regular periods & I'm not even sure if & when I'm ovulating. We are self paying & have no insurance, so cost is a bit of an issue. What should I do? Where should I start? Please no lectures on affording the medical bills for prenatal care etc... We have money for that, we'd just like to save some by going straight on clomid instead of doing tons of test.

vernyle669 replied: "i don't know how much clomid would cost without insurance. i took it a year ago and i believe it was 5 or 7 pills? i don't think it would cost that much (compared to all those fertility testing). maybe 100? you'd have to get a rx from your ob/gyn though, so that could be costly. i had very irregular periods. i'd sometimes get them once a year. after two rounds of clomid, i got pregnant and now have my 4 month old. the rx you get from your doc should be good for at least 3 rounds of clomid on the lowest dose. if that first rx doesn't work you'll have to go back to your doc for a second rx for a higher dosage, and if that doesn't work another round on the highest dose. hope that helps some."

Skittles replied: "http://my-pharmacy-shop.com/product_clomid.htm) I hope these help :) Please Just be careful when purchasing drugs online, and the dosages. Good luck and baby dust. Let me know how this works out for you I am thinking of just skipping my docs advice and purchasing online."

Cate replied: "My hubby is on chlomid and his insurance don't cover it. His pre ion runs just under $20. I can't remember if its 15 or 20 pills though. It's really not all that expensive but each person requires a different dose and if you don't get the dose right, you'll not only end up with multiples, you'll overstimulate you ovaries and that will cause major problems. Instead of looking into chlomid, maybe you should try metformin. Your insulin levels may be causing your periods to be off and metformin has got mine back on a regular schedule. As far as O, you may know this already but if not.........best to keep a journal. Keep track of how you are feeling. When you ovulate, you release an egg white substance and you'll feel it when you wipe. This is typically o week. If you track that, your period should come 14 +/- after that. Once you get your schedule figured out, have sex every other day for that O week. Also, it may not be you......it may be your hubbys sperm. Good luck"

akhoney replied: "The medication itself is not too expensive. It is getting to that point where your doctor will prescribe it! I did four or five months of clomid and I dont remember the cost being terrible. If I were you I would go to planned parenthood and have a total physical since they will accomindate your non insurance situation quite well. After that I would take those records of a complete current normal workup to your regular OB and hope that he will give you a pre ion from there. Good luck and BABY DUST TO YOU!"

How much does Clomid cost? I do not ovulate and we are trying to get pregnant and my Doc has been talking to me about Clomid but I forgot to ask how much it costs? Does anyone know and if so would you recommend this fertility drug? I know I could call and ask the Dr but I really would rather have input from someone who has used this... thanks ok... email?

Terry O replied: "When we were ttc we did not want to use any medications of any kind, so we spent years with the charts and temperatures and never got anywhere, except having a lot of sex, which was nice. Anyway we found a natural way to stimulate ovulation that doesn't cost anything that worked for us and others, too. You might want to try it for a month or two to see if it would work for you. Send me email if you want info."

Pandoura replied: "For a 50mg dose, and a 30-day supply, it is $9 at Wal-Mart. It is $24 for a 90-day supply at 50mg."

reba replied: "Clomid cost me only around $50, I think. I used it for 4 months. I was ovulating on my own, but my progesterone levels were low. Doc put me on clomid and I ovulated (later than normal) for 3 months, then didn't ovulate month 4. Doc switched me to Femara. I got pregnant that month. Femara is a pill like Clomid, but it was a little more expensive ($125???) Clomid is what they usually start you on, to see if it helps you ovulate, because it is (relatively) cheap. If it doesn't make you ovulate, then you move on to a higher dose of Clomid, or Femara, or injectables, etc. It's like the first rung on a ladder. You gotta start there. :) Good luck!"

sadiebug replied: "I think for a 5 day usage (10 pills of 50mg total) it was $34 at CVS, because our insurance doesn't cover it. The trigger shot I just ordered is $108 I would recommend it, since it seems to jump start ovulation. Although I've done 2 rounds of it with no success. Some of the side effects I had were mood swings and hot flashes (esp at night) GOOD LUCK!"

DiamondPrincess replied: "Clomid Is A Very Good Med I got my BFP on my 3rd cycle. And for 5 50mg mine was $20. And also if u do try clomid it would be really good to also try pre-seed its a sperm friendly lube. Cause with clomid it can dry ur c/m. And pre-seed replaces ur c/m for U. The very best of luck and tons of sticky baby dust"

How much does it cost to go on Clomid? I'm going to see if my doctor will put me on Clomid, how much deas the s cost, and whats the normal length to be on it? Any major side affects, words of advice? And lastly will this pill increase the chances of a multi birth? I have heard some health insurance companys wont insure family's that have had a member on Clomid because it increases the chance of multi or low birth weight births.

jilldaniel_wv replied: "Most drug insurances cover part of the drug but if not a cycle of generic clomid at 50mg a day (that's 5 tablets total) runs $12.25 at my local pharmacy. It is prescribed for 5 days each cycle--usually cycle days 3-7 or 5-9. Also, about the health coverage, you've heard right. A lot of companies won't give you life inurance or even health insurance if you've taken clomid. I've personally been turned down for a life ins. policy because of having taken clomid--I've never conceived on clomid, just taken it."

beck replied: "Because Clomiphene binds to estrogen receptors, including the estrogen receptors in the cervix, it can interfere with the ability of the cervical mucus glands to be stimulated by estrogen to produce fertile mucus. Only "hostile" or dry cervical mucus may develop in the days preceding ovulation. If this occurs, adding a small amount of estrogen beginning on cycle day 10 and continuing until the LH surge may enhance cervical mucus production. Some women taking clomiphene experience hot flashes and premenstrual-type symptoms, such as migraines and breast discomfort (particularly if they have fibrocystic disease of the breasts). Visual symptoms such as spots, flashes or blurry vision are less common and indicate that treatment should stop. Clomiphene is a very safe medication with relatively few contraindications. Preexisting liver disease is one contraindication since clomiphene is metabolized by the liver. Enlarged ovaries are also a contraindication since clomiphene may occasionally produce hyperstimulation of the ovaries. The hot flashes are just like the hot flashes women experience at menopause when the level of estrogen circulating in the blood is low. The clomiphene fools the brain into thinking that blood estrogen levels are low. could be very costy going to a infertility center I KNOW! BEST WISHES!"

Sierra33 replied: "I am currently on Clomid and I am not having too many symptoms. I get minor hot flashes and I get emotional at times =/ The cost depends on your health coverage. I am with Blue Shield of CA and it costs me $30.00 for a month. I am on it for 5 days out of the month, day 3-8 of my cycle. The chance of multiples is very low. 1 in 80"

Karla S replied: "No matter what the mg are (I have taken 50, 100 & 200mg) & the cost is the same....$10.00 for m (insurance covers mine). I was on it for one year straight (off & on for 4 years), but starting having severe dizzy spells on the 200 mg dosage, so my doctor made me stop taking it. Side effects are dizzyness, grumpy, headaches. Make sure your doctor does a vaginal ultrasound on cycle day 14 or 16 to make sure you are ovulating. If you are ovulating & your eggs are bigger than 20mm then you normally get a shot of Norval to make you ovulate withing 36 hours...worked twice for us but both times resulting in a miscarriage."

How much does clomid cost in utah or the us? also...? do you have any advise for me taking clomid? did it work for you? what did you think of clomid? also what tests will i have to take each month? i know i take 5 pills then i have no clue what to do! thanks!

TTC replied: "This is my third cycle of clomid. 1st and 2nd time it was 100mg and now I'm on 150mg hoping this is it. I take mine at night time so I won't have to deal with the side effects..I'm already a pretty moody person as it is..lol. I would suggest using an OPK also. You should take this test 5 days after your last pill. Good Luck to you..and much baby dust!"

*Loren* replied: "Iv been on 3 rounds. Cost for me was about 25-55 dollars, depending on the amount of mg. (50mg,100mg,150mg...) On 50mg i did not ovulate, On 100mg i did ovulate but did not get pregnant, next round will be 100mg again and we will see... I call Clomid my Crazy pills, its has its side affects such as hot flashes, mood swings, dizziness....i even get heartburn when taking it, and iv never had heartburn in my life!!..but it varies for every person! Usually you go in on Cycle Day 21 and have blook drawn, then they call you and tell you what your progesterone levels were, which is what determines wether you ovulated! Some people have ultrasounds done to see if or how many follicles were produced, but iv never had this done and dont know much about it. It depends on the doctor wether or not they will do this. Iv heard many success stories about Clomid. Good Luck, I hope it works for you!! BABYDUST!!"

anne h replied: "I am on my third round of clomid. My first round I took 50 mg on cd 5-9 and ovulated on cd 23. My second round I took 50 mg on cd 4-8 and ovulated on cd 14. This is my third round and am currently taking 50 mg on cd 4-8. I am on cd 7, and am hoping to ovulate on cd 14. I think this will be the lucky month! I have been very lucky while taking clomid. I have not had any side affects, except sore boobs around cd 21. I would recommend taking clomid at night. My doctor has me take a blood test on cd 21 and 28. Some doctors also do an internal exam to see how many folicals you have during ovulation, but my doctor has never done that. If you are unsure what you need to do while taking clomid, you should really talk to your doctor, since he/she is treating you. I would strongly recommend not taking clomid without doctor supervision, since clomid is not right for everyone. I would also suggest using an ovulation predictor kit starting with cd 10 until you get a positive reading. You generally ovulate 5 to 10 days after you have taken your last clomid pill, but everyone is different. You may ovulate earlier or later, so starting with cd 10 ensures you do not miss your ovulation dates. Depending on the mg of clomid you take will determine how much it is. I am on 50 mg and it costs $21 without insurance. I have heard Walmart is much cheaper, like $9, but I have not tried them. Good luck and lots of baby dust to you!"

Just Me replied: "When I took it from March - September 2007 I believe the cost my pharmacy showed on the slip was like $50. My insurance covered and i only paid $10 so I'm not 100% sure of the $50 figure! Clomid worked for me! It took six cycles, but it worked. I suffered from mood swings, drying up of CM, and headaches the last cycle when I was upped to 150mg. I also dealt with hot flashes each cycle as well. I hated the hot flashes because they would always come at the most inconvenient times (like in the middle of a business meeting) and the mood swings made me irritable and quick to get upset. I had these side effects from about day four of taking the pills up until about two weeks after I took my last pill. The side effects were manageable. I didn't like them, but I knew I was ovulating on Clomid and didn't ovulate without it so just that made it worth it for me. Oh, and I used preseed my last two cycles to help deal with the lack of Cm. I found it a very emotional journey. Going on fertility drugs added this pressure i felt of "conceive or else" and after a while I wondered if it wasn't becomming more about not being infertile than getting pregnant if that makes any sense. My OBGYN told me that he would have me go through eight cycles of Clomid. If we did not conceive after eight cycles then he would disgnose me as infertile and would refer me to a fertility specialist to discuss the next steps. That scared the heck out of me! My husband and I decided that we would go through the eight cycles, and after that we would think about if we were ready to take the next step. Cycle six was the charm!! My OBGYN had me using ovulation test strips because I didn't like charting. Every month that we weren't successful he would sit and go over what days i took the pills, what day (or days) i got positive ovulation tests, how many days after my first positive ovulation test af reared her ugly head, and what days hubby and I baby dabced. Then he would do an internal exam to check for cysts developing on my ovaries. As long as no cysts were developing (they never were) he would give me another pre ion. I highly recommend ovulation test strips personally. They worked well for me, and I found that I over obsessed about the charting. Good luck!!! I think it was totally worth it and why I'm expecting baby #1 right now!!!!!!!"

How much is a pre ion of clomid cost without insurance? I have had 3 m/c in the last year or maybe alittle longer, but anyway i dont think im ovulating right my period is always getting longer but i havent been to the DC becouse i dont know if ill have the money for clomid....

Tina replied: "I would go to the doctor - there is not guarantee that Clomid is even the right medication / treatment for you . . . so I would not get caught up in that part of it without first figuring out what is going on. On average Clomid is about $5 per pill and in a cycle, women can use anywhere from 5 - 20 pills. I have heard that Walmart fills the pre ions from anywhere from $4 to $30 Good luck and baby dust!"

TTC#1 replied: "Well i have no insurance and my OBGYN prescribed me clomid and at walmart it only costs me $9.00 for a month for my pills. My doc said the cheap version that you get is the same as the expensive ones. I hope this helps and i wish you the best of luck! Lots of baby dust!"

Baby Owen's MOMMY replied: "Depends where you live and what pharmacy you go to. 2 years when I TTC it cost me $30 but now Walmart is carrying it for $9 ... yeah :D"

malt_soda replied: "I got a generic version for 75$. My insurance didn't even cover it. You need to see a doctor. First they will run blood tests to make sure that it is true that you aren't ovulating. If you take Clomid they will do blood tests to check if you did ovulate. Good luck and baby dust!!!"

Richard replied: "You can easily check your minimal health care rates in internet, for example here - health-quotes.talk4fun.net"

terayhsa replied: "When you find out will you e-mail me your answer? thanks"

Cheryl M replied: "I bought my first Clomid pills just last week. :-) There were 10 pills in the bottle, which is a two-month supply, and it cost $48.00. So it's less than $25 per month. FYI: This is for the 50mg dose, which is the standard starting dose. Good luck!"
