ibuprofen burning stomach? I've felt nauseas pretty much all day and I took two 200 mgs of ibuprofen to help with very mild cramps but shortly after like 10 minutes my stomach started feeling like it was burning almost. I dont know if the ibuprofen would have done anything that fast but im just wondering if that could be the cause. I woke up at around 12 and had a yougurt, its almost 1 now so my stomach isnt THAT empty..

JB replied: "It does some people like that my mom always takes it with a few crackers."

Frank R replied: "Never take Ibuprofen on an empty stomach."

Zachary W replied: "Ibuprofen should always be taken on a full stomach and yes it can feel like its burning on your insides. It almost always gives me heartburn but usually only when its in a liquicapsule."

Christie E replied: "Always take ibuprofen with milk or yoghurt..never on an empty stomach. Ibuprofen is known to cause stomach irritation."

cjw4579 replied: "Taking too much ibuprofen can cause a condition caused "gastritis," which is an inflammation of the lining of your stomach. Slack off of the ibuprofen when possible, and always take it with food; something more substantial than yogurt."

cyberdoc replied: "Even a single tablet of Ibuprofen may cause gastritis. If you have a zantac with you - take it. chew a couple of tums or any other antacid."

papaw9446 replied: "www.righthealth.com - NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications) such as ibuprofen may cause ulcers, bleeding, or holes in the stomach or intestine. These problems may develop at any time during treatment, may happen without warning symptoms, and may cause death. Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had ulcers, bleeding in your stomach or intestines, or other bleeding disorders. If you experience any of the following symptoms, stop taking ibuprofen and call your doctor: stomach pain, heartburn, vomiting a substance that is bloody or looks like coffee grounds, blood in the stool, or black and tarry stools."

collegechicksellers replied: "ibuprofen sucks and never take it on an empty stomach eat some crackers or some soup but dont let it stay in there alsmost alone also if your stomach is upset dont eat dairy dairy can make your nausea way worse but soup and crackers are a wonderful thing"

i took alot of ibuprofen..now my stomach burns alot and my stool is bloody? ok so last week i suffered from a throat infection and i cudnt swallow so i woke up every two hours and took gel ibuprofen(about 4) to take away the pain. when i got to the er they helped me with the throat infection.but now my stomach burns REALLY bad every half an hour. my stool is liquid and is every hour..there is also blood in the stool...please help me..im in alot of pain..i cant afford to go to the er because i just did for the throat infection..what do i do if i thinik i may have jacked my stomach up?

Starlight replied: "You really need to go to the ER. You obviously "jack up" your stomach as you say, and may have caused liver and kidney damage. There is a reason there is a maximum daily dosage on the label of ibuprofen. It can kill you."

Zoe replied: "it depends on the brand you took...advil is alright to take in large doses tylenol however is not good you need to at least call a doctors office and see what their opinion is you might have damaged your stomach lining, or liver"

dancing_in_the_hail replied: "Well, you most certainly overdosed. Ibuprofen lasts 6 hours at the very least. A normal dose is about 500mg. It's likely that the gels you took were 200mg each....so you went over by about 8-12 times the normal dose. The abdominal pain is caused, most likely, by two factors: You have either given yourself an ulcer, or have caused liver problems...possibly both. Whichever it is, you MUST seek medical treatment IMMEDIATELY. Something has to be done to stop possible further damage to your stomach, intestines and liver. I advise that, since it's a weekday, you go to the local urgent care clinic (not the ER). It's usually cheaper, and you can get in faster. Find out if there is anything you can do to treat it at home, or if you need a charcoal clean out of your stomach. If you have nothing on your stomach right now, and you haven't been eating at all, have some saltines with some milk. Ibuprofen should never be taken on an empty stomach. That should help to alleviate the current pain and give you SOMETHING on your stomach in case they decide to treat you with a laxative. Now, open up a search engine and find your local Urgent Care clinic. Go right now...they take walk-ins. Feel better soon."

Kima replied: "When your stool is bloody, you need go to see at least a physician. Try not drink any more the cold soda but warm liquid. Not hard and spicy food but soft meals. Sometimes, it wil heal by time."

Can I give ibuprofen to a toddler that has the stomach flu? My 2 year old is sick, and I believe its stomach flu (gastroenenteritis) She has a fever and doesn't feel well and threw up her whole lunch today around 5:30 pm. She fell asleep after she threw up and woke up and has a fever. I have given her sips of pedialite (which she seems to want to drink) but she is burning up and not feeling well. I haven't tried to feed her any foods yet... so I want to know if its too soon to give her ibuprofen. I 'm worried it will irritate her stomach but at the same time she's really hot?

thecrunkness replied: "I wouldnt give her that, it might damage her stomach considering how she's already dealing trauma to it. stomach flus usually go away in a day or two anyways so just let her ride through it it will also strengthen her immune system to fight off viruses in teh future"

arial39 replied: "you can give her childrens tylenol or childrens motrin, either one will break the fever, just follow the dosage instructions very carefully."

Quentin Carter replied: "Im a teenager, but reseached it for you and it sounds ok to me check the link to make sure I'm correct I hope it helps."

I love my BABY!!! replied: "why are some of you telling her not to give the baby ibuprofen but to give her motrin. Motrin IS ibuprofen. If you don't know anything about the situation, don't give any advice. made you change your answers, huh?"

Liyah's Mommy(Expecting #2) replied: "Try acetaminophen(Tylenol) first. I would wait until she's able to keep some type of food down before giving her ibuprofen."

fluffy ducky replied: "this is only what i do for my children and im not telling you what to do, just a few pointers. plenty of fluids, im from england i don't know if you are in the us but i give calpol which is a paracetemol or nurofen which is ibuprofen, keep her cool, only have a thin blanket on, keep checking her temp and lots of sleep. if in doubt get her to a doctor. good luck hun, its tough i know. :)"

Lisa replied: "If she is hot you can try to give it to her, but she may not keep it down. Is she keeping down the pedialite? If she is keeping it down then try it. See if you can add the whole dose to the pedialite. Also, yogurt may help her stomach if she can handle that. That may help coat her stomach just enough so that the medicine does not bother her. Good luck."

Mel replied: "Ice pops and Popsicles are good for the stomach flu as is jello. I would not give her ibuprofen. You should get children's tylenol and give to her. You should monitor her fever, if it goes above 102 or lasts for more than 2 days, you should really take her to the doctor."

Rebekah E replied: "I answered your other question and if your daughter is sick for a week you really should take her to a doctor. Give her either tylenol or ibuprofen. If you can't get the fever down take her to the hospital."

ywriterct replied: "nooo. do not give toddlers ibuprofen, it can end up seriously bad. what ibuprofen does is it forces down the fever. however by doing so it speeds up the heart rate. and for children who naturally have a rather fast heart rate, speeding it up could harm them. if the fever turns out reallly bad, call the doctor. he/she will tell you if you can give ibuprofen. but in the meantime try calming it down with lots of preferably hot/warm water, keep warm in bed, the basics. and if she has the stomach flu remember to keep her from eating any milk related products; cheese, yogurt, milk etc. when she eats, give her something plain and easy to take, like plain bread."

What are the cons of ibuprofen? I know one of them is having a burning stomach... I took some and experienced this for almost the whole day. Should I be worried??

Granny replied: "That's because it has aspirin in it"

Mrs. SmartyPants replied: "I love the effect that it makes your pain go away, as I have to take about 8 to 10 a day just to be able to walk. But what I do deal with is severe heartburn, nausea, and frequent trips to the potty. But, these are all things that I must deal with, but if you can take something else, I would try that. Ibuprofen can cause stomach ulcers."

charlie89 replied: "ibu profen is a kind of non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs.it is potentianally in worsening ur gastric problems if u do have it.besides it can also cause peptic ulcer-(stomach ulcer or duodenal ulcer).so it is important for u to consult ur dr b4 taking them even it is easily available over the counter."

barrbou214 replied: "i guess it depends on your tolerance to ibuprofen, i take 2400mg a day and it doesn't bother me. maybe you should try and take it with a glass (8oz) of milk. ibuprofen is a nsaid ( non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) which is related to aspirin but does not contain that particular drug. it is also related to naproxen(aleive). if you read the label it will give you some advice on how to use the product and warnings. it is by far (to me at least) the best of the nsaids out there without having a pre ion."

Karen L replied: "Cons from Ibuprofen, 200mg: Allergic: especially if you are allergic to aspirin. Cause hives, facial swelling, asthma (wheezing), shock, skin redness, rash blister...stop use in those cases. Stomach bleeding warning: may cause stomach bleeding because it is a non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. May cause bleeding if you take for a long period of time, use blood thinner medications, have stomach ulcers, drink 3 or more alcoholic beverages a day. Do not use: if you have ever had an allergic reaction to any other pain reliever/fever reducer. Do not take if you have high blood pressure, reaching age 60 or more, heart or kidney problems. Basically, like any over the counter medication, stop usage if you feel like it may be causing the burning in your stomach. Ibuprofen is to be taken with food or milk if upset stomach occurs and long term continuous use may increase the risk of heart attack or stroke. Hope this helps."

cynthia g replied: "If you cough up blood or deficate black coffee grounds, go to the ER/ED it could cause internal bleeding."

mnvikes8484 replied: "if youre just taking it once in awhile for a headache or something, there isnt really much that happens commonly other than upset stomach as you are experiencing if you take them daily long term, they can raise blood pressure, cause ulcers, cause bleeding at high doses, increase risk of heart disease"

mcdannells replied: "Since I hate aspirin (and it doesn't work for inflammatory) I do take ibuprofen, I do take 1200mgs in the morning and have been known to take another at night, depends on the flaring of my RA. I have taken this for over 20 years (arthritis). One does have to watch out for stomach problems. Need something to eat before you take them if they hurt your belly. I like it or I would not be taking it ..."

GI tech replied: "Ibuprofen will cause gastritis (inflammation of the stomach), ulcers, or erosions...one of those is probably the reason you're having stomach pain. It's best to eat before you take Ibuprofen."

Ames replied: "bleeding. and lots of it. ibuprofen is a blood thinner...an a dangerous one at that. the burnnig you feel is a layer of your stomach disovling because of it. its not dangerous, just dont take it again on an empty stomach. better yet, dont take it all. take tylenol instead."

over dose ibuprofen last night / help please with some silly questions? I wrote earlier this morning about the silly thing I did last night, I just needed to ask a couple of things I have not been hungrey all day and have been having a burning pain in my stomach and pains in the center of my chest and breasts is that just nerves or should i get it check out as i live in the middle of no where.

zini replied: "You should go to hospital as you could have severely damaged your stomach lining and are possibly at risk of a clotting problem in your legs or heart. You may also have damaged your kidneys and will need your renal function checked. To help with the burning stomach pain you can take some gaviscon, or rennie or other antiacid until you get to hospital. They can also help you with any upsetting thoughts or feelings you've been experiencing and refer you onto someone who might be able to make you feel better emotionally, which may be useful for you in the long term?"

18 and horrbile cramps where i cant even move and my stomach burns.i take 3or4 vicodin an but no help..? i cant do anyhting the first 2 or 3 days of my period its horrible cramps sometimes so bad that i cry.i do not drink any caffeine on my period no chocolate i basically just live off bananas.water and veggies. advil does not work for me one time i overdosed on advil unintentionally because it was like nothing was happening and i threw up. neither does tylenol....or ibuprofen...but i have not tried anyhting else vicodin helps.i have it for after my wisdom teeth but only works after 3 or 4 pills and i wait 45minutes to an hour before taking another pill so i give it time to try and work.

SA16 replied: "DO NOT take 3-4 vicodin, even if they are that far apart. They contain acetominophen (tylenol) and that amount could be toxic to your liver. You clearly have the kind of cramps that require more treatment. See your doc or your Ob/Gyn and insist on better treatment. There are things that can help and won't cause as much damage as that dose of tylenol. You could have endometriosis or another condition that causes horrible cramps. You are right to avoid the caffeine. See your doc. Your current treatment clearly isn't working, and you don't deserve to hurt this much. Best of luck."

Piper Is Rad. :) replied: "take midol. it's the only thing that works for me too."

pinkroses2409 replied: "talk to your doctor one of my friends had that problem with horrible cramps and she was about your age sorry i don't know the whole story about it but the doctor will know"

i took over 20 aspirins and ibuprofen? i was feeling really suicidal but im over it now but right now i have a loud ringing in my ears my stomach feels like its BURNING i see dots before my eyes and my head hurts what do i do!?! could i possibly die?

Ryan M replied: "Head hurts? You shouldnt have another head ache in your life after what you did. Maybe you will die. You should ask a doctor, not people here."

Natasia L replied: "go to the doctor now, ibuprofen does major damage. Also talk to someone on why you did this in the first place."

Mazume replied: "1-800-222-1222, I'd recommend calling that number asap, and yes you could die."

coco replied: "UHHH YEAH bad idea... call 911, not only will the ibuprofen destroy your kidneys but it could kill you... call 911 NOW"

PaRTy PAnts replied: "Yeah, probably. 20 aspirins and ibuprofen? R u bonkers? U shud probably call sum body and make 'em stay with u for a little while, u know just incase. And don't do that again."

TitoBob replied: "Both aspirin and ibuprofen, unless buffered or coated, can cause internal bleeding as they will attack the lining of the stomach if ingested in quantity. Ibuprofen can also cause kidney damage, as my doctor told me. I would strongly suggest going to the ER if it's reasonably close, or calling an ambulance if it isn't. Very dangerous amounts of those two drugs."

brwniyd replied: "You need to go to the ER. I'm not going to say your going to die within the next 20 minutes, but your going to have liquid charcoal for dinner. Or they will pump your stomach. I'd choose the charcoal. I don't know the long term effects. I did the same stupid thing once when I was 18. That was the routine I had to go through. That was 17 years ago so I don't know if those methods are still used. Anyway, go to the ER."

pink replied: "i don't know if you will die but what is causing the ringing in the ears is from the aspirin defineiley. and your stomach is burning because of bothe the aspirin and ibuprofen. they both effect your stomach and can cause bleeding alot. if i were you i would go the the er right away and tell them what you took so first they can check your stomach for bleeding cause that can be really bad and if it is and not controlled you will have a good chance of dying. definitely go to the er you just put the worst things in your stomach and you may be bleeding. and the ringing from the aspirin is totally bad go to the er. and the ibuprofen is a blood thiner so you will bleed more and you need to have your blood to clot"

Saucy replied: "That ringing could be permanent. Aspirin overdose causes hearing loss... which is exactly what you did. And it also causes ulcers. You need to go to the hospital and have the drugs neutralized before you bleed out from all the blood thinners you took. I'd also suggest having your hearing tested after you recover to see how much damage you did. And please consider getting some psychiatric help. You don't just "get over" being suicidal. You're sick... and you need help. Please go to the hospital immediately. Because YES, you could die if you start bleeding internally, and if you're having symptoms already you need medical help asap."

Nicoops replied: "Get yourself to a hospital! 20 of each?! or a mix of both totalling 20??? that's wayyy too much you CAN die. They'll have to pump your stomach. IF you dont have a ride to the hospital or feel like youre going to collapse call 911! Geeze you need to smarten up."

Janny replied: "Call 911 now. Get to a hospital immediately."

carkeys replied: "go to the toilet and throw up soon!! you have to get all those pills out of your system!"

mayday every day replied: "Oh, boy. You're gonna wish you hadn't...well, I think you already do. Those are the worst pills to try and OD on! You probably won't die, but I'm sorry to say, the way you will feel you're probably gonna wish you did. Depending when you took them, you might want to try and throw them up if it wasn't too long ago. But definitely, immediately call 911! You most likely have a stomach bleed, and your liver is also going to get really mad at you :/ You definitely, definitely need to go to the ER. I'm really sorry that you were brought to that point and also that you're going to have to experience this. I'm sure whatever things happened to you, it was horrible, but please know that your situation will get better & there will be ways to deal with it. I'm sure you'll wind up okay, but please get all different kinds of help ASAP because I'm guessing you feel all different kinds of shitty. We all need help sometimes, there's nothing wrong with it. If you ever don't have anyone to talk to when you need to, you can send me a message. Feel better! <3"

RainDateChick replied: "CALL 911 also, if you can, try to make yourself sick to get it out of your body."

jadeddrummer replied: "Dial 9-1-1 Ipecac syrup, Water, Pee, Puke, Repeat. There are better, and much more fun, drugs to kill yourself with. These symptoms of an overdose of the drugs you mentioned include: Upset stomach and stomach pain Nausea Vomiting -- may cause an ulcer or irritation of the stomach known as gastritis Symptoms of chronic overdose may include: Fatigue Slight fever Confusion Collapse Rapid heart beat Uncontrollable rapid breathing Large overdoses may also cause: Ringing in the ears Tempoary deafness Hyperactivity Dizziness Drowsiness Hyperactivity Seizures Coma Ibuprofen Overdose can cause stinking vomiting, profuse sweating, severe abdominal pain, and can land you straight in the mental hospital for attempted suicide, where you may be medicated with things like liquid carbon or charcoal. Charcoal has the ability to absorb the drug before it can enter the systemic circulation. Another form of treatment to fight Ibuprofen overdose is gastric lavage which is not very popular, but is considered if the intake is potentially life threatening. This treatment can be performed within 60 minutes of ingestion of Ibuprofen."

ShustMe replied: "i don't know how you got it, but you need to put healthier stuff in your body, you are too young to be taking this... my friend messed up her kidneys with ibuprofen, my child gets a rash when she takes ibuprofen, so use tylenol instead, it's much safer... i don't know what horyxy cuts are lol"

tee<3 replied: "you could be preggas"

Bella W replied: "You probably just took too many hydroxy cuts...and then mixed with ibuprofen witch isn't to healthy anyway....with that...yeah it will probably ware of it a while...."

Burning achy pain above belly button? What is it? Ever since being diagnosed with Acid Reflux by upseting my stomach by taking strong Ibuprofen for a few weeks about a month ago now but i've still got this horrible burning achy feeling above my belly button about an inch up right in the middle but it's on and off and can feel quite strange. I'm now starting to get back pain with it mainly on the left side in my left ribs and sometimes higher and across the bottom of my back. Whats going on? I'm not sure if it's still my Acid Reflux. What about Gastritis or a Ulcer? Btw i do have IBS aswell. I'm worried i'm only 18, and scared incase it's something serious. Thankyou -xX

stomach pain, please help? Okay, for the past week, I've been waking up sweating, getting a really nervous feeling that I can't stop, and I'm nauseated. Usually if I get up and walk around it goes away after a while. But today was the worst. I kept waking up from the pain, I got a burning stabbing pain in my stomach that really hurt, I felt like I was gonna puke any moment, I was light headed, and so weak. I ate something, didn't help, drank water, took tums, rested, took pepto bismal, nothing helped. I still feel like it, and I don't know what's going on. Can anyone help? The only thing that I maybe thought of was that since I've been having more back pain, that I've been taking a lot more ibuprofen, could taking too much of that cause pain? I don't know, maybe that's nothing, oh well, please help? Thanks (:

good2me replied: "GO TO THE DOCTOR!!!!!!!!!"

Lolo replied: "Definitely go to a doctor, it could be an ulcer, or a tear in your stomach wall. either way, GO TO THE DOCTOR!!!"

TheBmoney replied: "Takeing to much ibuprofen can cause the kind of symptoms you have. i have gotten very sick from takeing to much of it and the same thing that happen to mii seems like it is happening to you. Juss stop takeing any meds wit ibuprofen for a couple of days and it will go away. But either way u should go see the doctor to make sure...gud luck"
