Is smoking marijuana while being on zoloft bad for you? I don't smoke pot but I am curious. I know smoking pot is bad for you as it is, but does doing it on zoloft make it worse for you?

REnate replied: "Yes, I had a friend that did that and she went crazy and had to be treated in a hospital. No one needs to smoke pot."

fruitbat427 replied: "Probably. You should ask your doctor about all the things you can or can't do while on your medication."

How bad is drinking on zoloft? i take 75 mg of zoloft daily how bad is it to drink on it?

trendypinoy11 replied: "Alcohol and any kind of anti-depressant is a bad idea. When I was a frosh in college, I was taking 150 mg of Zoloft for severe depression, and then I started drinking Bud Ice 40 oz with my friends...I blacked out and came to in a hospital bed with no memory of what happened, but my clothes were DRENCHED in puke (sorry for the image) and for awhile I was confused and didn't know who I was or what I was doing there (think, the Bourne Identity with vomit and headache). Yeah, drugs+alcohol - bad, Bad, BAD!!!"

Melody replied: "Listen to my story about drinking and antidepressants... A few weeks ago, my dad's doctor put him on a low dose of xanax for stress. One night he said he had drunk a beer or two (not whiskey or anything) and then late that night, he just fell over as he was walking through the dining room, dropped down on the floor! Limp and almost lifeless, and he may have passed out for a few seconds even because it took my mom a few minutes to get him to respond to her asking him if he was okay. So she eventually helped him to his feet and told him to go to bed immediately. I was really freaked, like had he had a stroke or heart attack or something... But the next day he was fine. It was drinking (even just a couple beers!) on the xanax. Believe me, you shouldn't drink on an antidepressant if it says not to on the bottle. Because that's what drinking with xanax got him. Since your dosage is higher and it's a different medication, well, the results could be worse. so just put up the beer for while you're on zoloft. If you have a brain, you'll see why your doctors do don't wanna try it."

Is Zoloft really bad for your liver? I've been on Zoloft for over a year. It doesn't seem to be doing much for me, but now I am worried after being told by friends that Zoloft is very bad for your liver. I haven't heard anything about this. Yet my friends were shocked that my family dr. would even prescribe it to me knowing its bad effects on the liver. Any help would be appreciated. Oh and yes I will be asking my doctor but right now I am on vacation and won't be seeing him for quite some time.

Dizynman replied: "Too much of any drug is bad for your liver. Everything is proceseed by your liver - air, food, meds, etc."

Lisa replied: "its not bad"

pateo replied: "Zoloft is a SSRI antidepressant manufactured by Pfizer. It is used for the treatment of depression, panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder, among others. Zoloft works by inhibiting the re-uptake of serotonin between neural connections. This action leaves more serotonin available to transfer neural electrical messages more smoothly and efficiently. Zoloft has been the focus of several patient and family complaints concerning the drug's side effects. Many of the SSRIs have been reported by patients to induce agitated, suicidal or homicidal behavior. There are also know cases of liver damage or liver failure."

Itza replied: "i used to be on zoloft 50mg and it never did anything to my liver"

pinkstealth replied: "ALL DRUGS ARE BAD FOR YOUR LIVER ANYTHING ELSE IS A LIE"

C replied: "Anything in excess is bad for your liver. You may want to consider acupuncture for drug-free depression/anxiey treatment. I was on 3 medications before and wanted to not have to take them anymore, and have not had to take anything for 3 months."

~JeSsIcA~ replied: "What drugs arent bad for your live???"

Crushgal replied: "I hope not!! But now that my anxiety is gone, I am going to try to get off of Zoloft. I hate being reliant on medication to get me through life."

Has anyone ever had any bad side affects while drinking on Zoloft? I am currently on 75 mg of zoloft. I take it for panic/anxiety disorder. I would like to have a drink now and again socially when I am out with friends but I am scared that something bad will happen.

stoppdemadness2003 replied: "I will just give you a bad hangover and counteract the zoloft."

Lisa L replied: "Don't do it! Alcohol is a depressant. You will be negating the efforts of your treatment. Please! You have come along way in recognizing that you need the extra glue, now don't mess it up! Please, you are worth much more than a social drink. There are many drinks out there that look like all the others but don't have alcohol. I would hope that if you are with friends and you are old enough to drink that this would really not be a problem. You can still have fun with out it. Please, remember how important to you that you are. You could die from this kind of action and or hurt many others along the way."

my_rainythoughts replied: "i was taking 200mg of Zoloft and drank...never did anything to me...except i made sure not to take my dose the nights i decide to drink."

Kim S replied: "why would you want to drink Alcohol? It is a depressant. Zoloft is an anti- depressant. / That is defeating the purpose"

letterstoheather replied: "then don't drink. you can have a good time without alcohol. besides, soda or water is cheaper I would like to add that, purposely neglecting to take your zoloft isn't a good idea... and also that MOST ALCHOLICS have underlying mental illness which cause them to self-medicate. Alcoholism has nothing to do with zoloft..."

I am on zoloft for panic disorder, I get bad panic attacks a week before my period, What should i do? I am on zoloft and clonazepam for panic disorder,Although they help, I get bad panic attacks a week before my period and it is so uncomfortable! What can i do to lesson the panic?

eddie9551 replied: "Tak to your doctor. Talk to an herbologist if you believe in that. The LAST thing you should do is ask opinions on medicals stuff here"

sherri s replied: "I understand! Avoid Caffeine, Alcohol and get your rest. There is no majic cure. Exercise helps as it releases your "feel good" hormones. Good luck"

katlady replied: "talk to your doctor about it. the meds should be helping to control those reactions. you may need an adjustment for those times. i usually have to increase my anti anxiety pill during that time and then cut back when symptoms ease up. you might even need a different medication"

drshorty replied: "Talk to your psychiatrist and see if there isn't a different medication that might help it get under better control. Also, you can see a counselor who can teach you some anti-anxiety techniques. I'm sorry you're struggling with this. I hope everything works out. God bless!"

theessenceofrose replied: "be checked for pms serious hormone levels are crazy before period they may be able to give you different med"

becauseicare replied: "I have heard that taking Vitamin B will help you a lot. Get some Vitamin B tablets with all the B vitamins and try it."

yidlmama replied: "You need to have your thyroid checked if yo haven't already. Some times the thyroid can cause our brain to behave in ways that are not enjoyable and out of our control. Have you seen a counselor about your panic attacks?? A counselor will not be able to fix the problem BUT may be able to give you some coping strategies. With knowledge you might be able to talk yourself out of a panic attack. If the panic attacks only come around your period..why would your doctor prescribe you medication to take all of the time. I bet if you saw a counselor and found some ways to manage the attacks...you might not need such medication. I hope this will pass for you and I can't imagine how hard they might be to deal with."

MAS replied: "Get pregnant."

no.#1 Mom replied: "Clonazepam is also used for nightmares, acting out your dreams, or talking in your sleep. Zoloft does work very well with panic attacks, but when you combine the two it can cause hallucinations. When your hormones change or your cycle is off Zoloft can effect you in several ways. My question is are you sure they are panic attacks? You may want to let your doctor know about what is going on. He should either reduce the strength or change the med. I have taken alot of different anti-depressants in my life and I have done alot of study on them. I hope you will take my advice into consideration. Any time a doctor prescribes you a medication look it up on the internet before you put it in your mouth. Most doctors just prescribe the first medication they think of, because they make money for that pre ion. When they have to cancel that medication and prescribe another they make more money. So be careful!!!!"

soft_gentle_butch1960 replied: "Your not alone I go through most days having anxiety attacks, most of the time I just let it run it's course. As for a solution it's hard to know what works best. I get really sad and depressed or I feel really off balanced emotionally. As for the best solution, try going for a walk or talk to a friend or ask your doctor maybe for a low dose of ativan. Or maybe your meds. just need to be upped during that time. I hope this helps."

Is zoloft bad for me if i'm pregnant? I asked my dr. she said it isn't but in the pan flits they say that its bad for fetus's. I'm on zoloft(obviously) & I dont want it to harm my baby in any way.. Will it? I'm not even a month preggers..

My3Boys replied: "Zoloft is one of the few anti-depressants that is considered to be safe during pregnancy."

traci f replied: "i dont no if it is bad. but i try not to take what i can live without while i am pregnant cause whatever you put in your body you put in babies body also"

Im_miss_world replied: "the first months are the most important months. until the 3rd that's when the baby is developing. However just ask your doctor. everyone will give you advice like they know but it's always a good idea to ask someone who knows."

speechy replied: "Zoloft and Prozac are considered safe. Make sure that you check with your doctor however to make sure you are on a correct dosage."

sandoz replied: "Different meds can affect different organs at different times in a developing fetus.. Call your pharmacist and ask."

Icyelene R replied: "Its the safest and mildest antidepressant you can take."

i want to know if smoking pot while on zoloft is bad for you? i take zoloft daily for anxiety and depression i also like to smoke pot about 2 times a week will the pot effect the Zolofts effects? please no "weed is bad for you" comments

Mr. Kennedy .......... Kennedy!!! replied: "is smoking it ever bad for you?"

TUESDAYSUX replied: "sorry with or without zoloft it's bad for you & are you aware that pot CAUSES anxiety!?"

miss_cutie replied: "dnt thinkk soo it jus makes yhu adicted to it and want monney"

Cookie B replied: "Not if it makes you feel good. Trust me though, mark my words..Do NOT, under any circumstances, drink alcohol on zoloft, you will go from having a good 3 drink buzz to blacking out and acting psychotic due to the fact that the liver is so busy processing the Zoloft that the alcohol will eventually be released directly into the bloodstream."

rock4763 replied: "ok first of all fuck everyone who answered with weed is bad im on zoloft (150mg) and i smoke probly 2-3 times a weed and im perfectly fine"

purestmilk replied: "I hate to say it but its because of the pot you are on Zoloft! But together V bad! Give up the pot and you'll probably come off Zoloft! I was on it for a little while and i researched it and its bad mixing it with other mind effecting drugs even alcohol!"

ivan m replied: "it will flip the effect of both drugs, zoloft is an antidrepessant. which reduces anxiety, and marijuana is a pain killer, wish does the same thing, anti anxiety. its not bad as in health. but it is messing with your brain cells, there for, when you stop taking zoloft. you are more likely to get anxiety and depression. trust me. i use to be on zoloft. i rather stick with marijuana. and you do know you can get it prescribed for anxiety and depression right?. i wouldnt recommend doing both. stick with one."

endeciever replied: "yes its bad to smoke while taking zoloft. zoloft acts upon the neurotransmitters in your brain to regulate your mood. the dosage is precise. if the amount is too little it will be ineffective, too high and you won't be able to function normally. the pot you smoke on the other hand will vary in potency and effectiveness, as it is not administered under a doctor's supervision. this is significant because marijuana has a documented interaction with antidepressants, including zoloft. getting high while taking any drug for depression or anxiety is like gambling with your sense of well being. it might negate the euphoric effects of smoking marijuana or make you feel disoriented. in short, its counterproductive to taking the antidepressant. its quite possible that you will end up feeling worse than before. I smoked pot everyday for 3 years before being prescribed zoloft. I started having erratic mood swings when I would smoke while the zoloft was in my system. I tried being on the meds without smoking and the difference was noticeable enough to quit smoking pot cold turkey."

does zoloft give bad side effects? i heard that using zoloft makes people sick with amounts of side affects. is that true? i take it because of OCD and anxiety. ad i also use Xanx for panick attacks, tthat'swwhatthe doctor prescibed to be, so asking you people is this a bad choice or should i try not to use medication?

Jared H replied: "All medicine, espeically Zoloft, can have negative side effects."

dialtone replied: "why don't you read about them and find out what % of people get the side effects. DUH!!!!"

TSI replied: "idk but i like your eclipse"

DKNY D replied: "Hi, there are more than one medication that is out there that may be more suitable for you. That is why you take medication and has to be checked at your doctor on regular basis to see if the medication is the right kind for you. In emergency, you can contact local CVS pharmacy. They know more about medication than doctors do."

untold 23 replied: "YEAH its bad stuff, i was on that when i was 18 and im 24 now and the Doc said take it slow when getting off...i did and was wanting to take my life...be careful...it helps ....but be carefull. try jesus"

rialisi replied: "I've been taking zoloft with no side effects.... can't say it's had much of a positive effect either though. The doctor said that at about 200mg/day is when you start to get the side effects. If you're on a lower dosage it should be ok."

Kharli replied: "if the doctor prescribed it you should probably take it. I had been on zoloft for a short period and it wasn't too bad. It made me feel a little more sleepy and it makes you feel a bit numb to feeling. Its hard to explain. It helped me and I hope it helps you."

MEL B. replied: "It varies from person to person, but the people i know who have used it have had no problems."

bizzylizzy replied: "It depends. You can write to me at."

J.D. replied: "i have been taking zoloft for 4 years now for anxiety and i have never gotten sick from it. i say if it works keep using it but if it makes you sick then try something else. cymbalta sucks for anxiety i switched to that for a while and it made the anxiety worse for me. zoloft helps me with the same things you have and again i have had nothing but positive results. hope this helps."

lilly of the valley replied: "yes, it does give bad side effects like.............................. nausea insomnia ejaculation problems lol sorry had to throw that one in there diarrhea or loose stools dizziness dry mouth fatigue drowsiness indigestion shakiness loss of appetite decreased sex drive increased sweating burning or tingling sensation pain headache weight loss (witch is a goos thing lol) stomach pain) constipation vision changes hot flashes nervousness. Johnny Depp lover replied: "yes i took it and i had horribel side effects it was horrible i was like a machine every thing had to be perfect so it might worssen ur ocd"

Is it bad to be on Zoloft and Wellbutrin at the same time? My friend has been on Zoloft and she had to go back to the doctor because she was having sexual side effects. Her doctor perscribed her Wellbutrin to take along with the Zoloft....she seems a bit out of sorts and emotional...is it good to mix these two anti-depressants? I didn't think you could...but I'm not sure. Please help.

Richard H replied: "ask a doctor...how would anybody here know?"

Lisa M replied: "Although they are both in the same catagory, the Zolft will also deal with anxiety disorder too. I take Lexapro, BuSpar and Klonipin, and they all deal with different aspects of my depression. If she is haveing symptoms after the initial "getting used to" times, then she should discuss it with her doctor. But right now, it will take a few weeks for the effects to really start to work. I wish her the best !!!"

Miss E. replied: "I'm surprised that she wasn't just put on Effexor. Zoloft and Wellbutrin each work on different brain chemicals. Effexor works on them both. Perhaps her doctor has her on both to wean her off the one and on to the other. Since it can take a month for Wellbutrin to really start working, it might be better to be on both so she doesn't slip back into depression before starting on Wellbutrin only."

Ace Librarian replied: "You should speak with a doctor or pharmacist."

hapi replied: "i take both of them and i am fine"

What are some bad effects that you have gotten from Zoloft? Im having issues with my new meds can anyone shed some light on my issue and I really need to hear from people who have taken this and experienced not so pleasing results from Zoloft. I have a feeling it just might not be for me! Only people who have taken Zoloft please respond! Thankyou soo much! I will be talking to my doc soon about this but I just want to hear peoples opionion and experiences.

Bangarang replied: "Drowsiness was the biggest one. I slept through alarms. Ironically, the effect was TOO strong. It eliminated worry to a major degree. I was cutting classes... and I just didn't care. All my anxiety was removed. I quit cold turkey because my reaction was too strong."

randall_nd replied: "Twice, I tried Zoloft and experienced nausia. I now take Saint John's Wort."

Chrys replied: "www.webmd.com and look up the side effects. ( I took zoloft once...made me goofy...as in I'd fall over and laugh for no reason...on ONE pill.)"

AskAStupidQuestion... replied: "I've taken it. It worked well for my depression. But killed my sexual function. But at the time, it was better to be non-suicidal than horny. Make sure you give it time, a couple of months to get to full effect and let your body adjust, before you ask for a change. But if the problem you are experiencing is severe (like my severe neck pain when on wellbutrin), then by all means see the doc and get switched to something else. Sometimes you need to try a bunch of things, or even combos, before you find what works. Good luck."

jenniliz replied: "i haven't had any problems with the zoloft, aside from the fact it makes me a little sleepy so i take it at night-- sometimes i do feel the sleepy the next day, but its not terrible-- also dry mouth, but both i can deal with very easily. its much easier to be a little sleepy and have dry mouth than feel like i was feeling. if your having trouble with zoloft you should (as you plan to) discuss it with your doctor to find a suitable medication that will help you with fewer side effects. good luck"

Nicky replied: "I was on that stuff when my first husband died, and I couldn't find the energy to move afterwards. It made me feel bizzare. I woke up in cold sweats everynight for 2 years. I had brochitis constantly! I dont smoke either. I couldn't breath, then, I broke out in hives, from head to toe. I then began to get "argumentative" with everyone. I would get very angry. I finallyrealized it could be the drug , and got off of it. All those symptons went away. Within a year."

senser1080 replied: "After a few years my face kinda got chubby. I have a really good BMI, but my face, just looks... kinda chubby as to before I started taking them."

mzJakes replied: "When I was on Zoloft I sweated constantly, even in my sleep, and gained 20 lbs in 2 1/2 months. Been off it for years now, but still haven't lost the weight....my bad!"

JD replied: "I felt so much better within 3 days of taking the stuff. Then I began to get depressed again. Really depressed. I figujred that if I felt this way on the medication, how would I be off of it? I felt suicidal, though I knew I didn't want to die. About a month or two after I began taking it, I felt that I could stand it no longer, I was going to get off the medication, and if I killed myself, oh well, I didn't care anymore. Within 3 days I felt so much better. The medication was slowly taking me to my suicide. Luckily, I got off of it in time. Not everyone is as lucky as I am."

mandaleehugnkiss replied: "i have been taking zoloft for about a year now. the only bad side effects i had in the beginning were feelimg jittery. it did not help with my anxiety so i was put on sereqel . um, all together, zoloft has been the best anti depressant that i have taken. others made me like a zombie or just didnt work. diferent things work for different people . just talk to your doc. he should know best. good luck. God bless"
