Can Avapro still cause side effects like nausea even a year later? My mom is on Avapro for HTN for about a year now. She has always had this nausea since the beginning and thought it would go away. Has anyone experienced this or know if it is common?

ckm1956 replied: "No. The medication is long gone and likely had nothing to do with the nausea. She should see a GI doc if her family doc is baffled."

Wendy C replied: "I have not taken this medication personally but I did some research and found that people taking Avapro may experience dizziness, lightheadedness, blurred vision, stomach upset, or heartburn as your body adjusts to the medication. The key words here are ADJUSTS TO THE MEDICATION. If she has been taking it for a year now she is way past the adjustment period. I think she should contact her physician about this and see if he/she will try her on another medication for hypertension and explain that the Avapro is still making her nauseated. Also she could have some type of stomach issue going on, so she should consult her physician about this also. Click this link for more info: Best wishes to you and your mom."

Side effects of Avapro for high BP? Has anyone experienced bloating and diarrhea from 150mg. of Avapro.

Sylph replied: "Possible side effects of Avapro (irbesartan)? Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects: * swelling, rapid weight gain; * chest pain, fast heart rate; * nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); * painful or difficult urination; or * urinating more or less than usual, or not at all. Less serious side effects are more likely to occur, such as: * diarrhea, heartburn, upset stomach; * feeling tired, nervous, or anxious; * fever, chills, sore throat, stuffy nose, flu symptoms; * dizziness; * headache; * joint or muscle pain; or * dry cough. Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome."

Of the HBP medicines Diovan, Benicar or Avapro, which has the least side effects for anyone who has taken them? Diovan made me feel like I was coming out of my skin, with insomnia. Now my doctor has given me both Avapro and Benicar samples to try. Can anyone tell me of their experiences with trying these ARB's and which worked the best for you? Thanks

Sar replied: "Benicar doesn't have any side effects related to insomnia or restlessness - mostly just stomach pain or upset while avapro may cause dizziness, tiredness, and diarrhea All the ARBS have about the same effectiveness There is also Cozaar another ARB as well"

granny replied: "ihave been chasing BP medication for the last year,,,finally started on Diovan in August of last year. I have done fairly well on it compared to what I did on Lisinopril, cardura, Hytrin, and numerous others, I do have some knee pain, which at the end of the day is sometimes awful, but my BP has been excellent since starting it. However I dont know how much longer I can abide the knee pain. But it is the least of the side effects that I have gone through. Nightmares, coughing, profuse sweating, chest pain, swollen lips and tongue to name a few. I just keep trying different medications, and thank God my PCP doesn't think that I am a whiner or a nut case. And the samples just keep on coming,,,,,,can you say test subject???? That is what I feel like sometimes........"

What are some side effects that people have suffered from taking 300mg. of avapro? Has anyone experienced depression, exhaustion, loss of appetite, swelling more than usual and /or diarreha..etc???? Any help would be appreciated!

Noor M replied: "Some of the most common side effects are diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue. The side effects that you have mentioned in your question are all listed as side effects in the studies they did when they were doing Avapro clinical trials. Most of them should level off as your body adjusts to the medication. Unfortunately, with any medication you will see the side effect first (if there is one), then you will see the therapeutic effect. It is the rule of thumb. Make sure you take the medication at bedtime, as a lot of the side effects may be easier to manage if they are slept off. It is also better to manage the "dizzy" or also known as the hypotensive side effect. Just hang in there. If you have any other questions or concerns - feel free to send me an email. I'll do my best to help you out."

Has anyone tried a blood pressure medication with only few side effects? My mums on Avapro.? My mum has also tried tenormin and it really messed her up in the head, but the Avapro gives her really bad bloating in the stomache and cramps. She realizes all medications are going to have some side effects but she has to be on them to keep her alive and just wants to find one thats not too bad on the side effects. Any info anyone could give me would be a great help.

Brrrr replied: "You said it yourself. Every BP medication has potential side effects. Avapro (ARB-class) and tenormin (betalocker) are perfectly good medicatons. I'm sorry to hear that your mother is one of those few people who do not tolerate them. She should inform her physician about the side effects. I'm sure her physician will offer her an alternative, perhaps from a different class, based on her health history. Please note that I did not recommend a specific medication. That would be inappropriate because I do not know your mother's history and have never examined her. Only her physician can do this."
