Is Wellbutrin XL 150 mg stronger than Wellbutrin XR 150mg? I mean does Wellbutrin XL 150 mg give you the same amount of medication as Wellbutrin XR, except it absorbes into your system during a longer period of time? So if you take150mg of Wellbutrin XR, would it mean it is stronger to your system but for a shorter period of time?

The Un-Cola replied: "They are both 150mg one is a once a day medication the other is a twice a day medication. This is generally a starting dose for Wellbutrin and 300mg/d is what is considered a therapeutic dose. If you were to only take 150mg per day as a single dose using the SR formulation you would have higher peak levels, but also a lower trough. One is not really stronger than the other. To be clear this medication comes in 3 different formulations Wellbutrin given 3 times a day Wellbutrin SR given 2 times a day Wellbutrin XL given 1 time daily"

What is the difference between Wellbutrin XL and Wellbutrin XR? Has anyone taken them together? I have been taking Wellbutrin XL 150 mg, I tried to increase the dose to 300mg but I feel kind of agitated(today is the fourth day). My doctor said I could take the 150 XL with XR 75 mg to lessen the side effects. Anyone have any advice? Should I give the 300 mg a few more days first?

Fryemall replied: "The XL pills dissolve quickly and release their entire dose into you system. The XR pills will dissolve slowly and provide a more even dose during the day. I would actually go with the XR in a 150mg dose so you don't experience any ups or downs."

famlydoctr replied: "Actually, the wellbutrin SR is a twice a day dosing, which means it goes into and out of your system slightly faster. The Wellbutrin XL has a time release so it continues to work over 24 hours. You can take the two together....just remember it is the same medications, so don't take too much. Your doc probably was just finding a way to give you 225mg (more than the 150mg but less than the full 300mg). If your agitation is severe, you may want to try the 225mg dosing. If the agitation is just "annoying" then you could stay at the 300mg and give it another chance."

What are the symptoms from Wellbutrin XR withdrawal? I've been taking Wellbutrin XR for six months. I started on 150 mgs then went to 300 mgs. When I talked to my doctor about getting off it (caused horrible anxiety for me) he put me on 150 again so the withdrawal effects wouldn't be so harsh. What are people's experiences with getting off this drug? How long do they last?

Sick replied: "(I am not a doctor and this is not official medical advice) I am not aware of any withdrawal effects, but each person is affected differently. The bigger issue is probably dealing with the problem for which you were prescribed the wellbutrin in the first place. Depression, for example, can be very harsh on its own. If you sincerely believe that this is a withdrawal effect and not a depression or medical issue, the thing to do is to taper it off slowly. Try wellbutrin SR which is a suspended release form, and try it in the 100 mg dose. Gradually space out your doses until you aren't taking it very much. If you are still having issues, you might need a different medication. From an article here: "The discontinuation syndrome is most common with those drugs that have a short half-life (how long it takes for half the drug to clear from your body). Venlafaxine (Effexor), tricyclics, MAOIs and most SSRIs can cause symptoms. Fluoxetine (Prozac) is the one SSRI which generally does not cause problems because it has a half-life of 2-4 days and it's primary metabolite has a half-life of 4-16 days. This long half- life gives it a built in tapering off. The syndrome is rarely seen in the newer medications, nefazodone (Serzone), bupropion (Wellbutrin) and mirtazapine (Remeron). ""

JP replied: "Stopping Wellbutrin abruptly may result in discontinuation syndrome expressed as dystonia, irritability, anxiety, mania, headache, aches and pains. As you are not stopping treatment abruptly, you might not even have any discontinuation syndrome, and if you get any symptoms once you're completely off the drug, it is unlikely to be severe or last longer than a week. It is even ok to stop Wellbutrin abruptly and the chances are you won't have any severe withdrawal symptoms. This is not to be confused with SSRI's and other classes of antidepressants which can induce a nightmare even with adequately tampered withdrawal. Wellbutrin is quite unique in it's mechanism of action, but it didn't work for me either, caused a massive panic attack. In regards to your other question which is in voting (hope you choose a best answer for this one!), both weight gain and weight loss can happen with Trazodone, weight loss can happen with Wellbutrin, and Xanax generally increases the appetite, especially for fatty foods. If your diet hasn't changed, your most likely offender is Trazodone."

Thomas G replied: "They last depending on long you took them. AND ssri withdrawal is serious. You can go into this syndrome called "serotonin syndrome""

Does anyone take Effexor XR with Wellbutrin XL?? I am currently taking 225mg of Effexor XR a day for panic disorder. After being on this medication for about 4 months, I have developed depression and lack of motivation. So, the doc has put me on 150 mg of Wellbutrin XL a day. Just wanted to know if anyone else out there is taking this medicine combination and if it has helped. I also take Klonopin in the evening as a sedative. Thanks for all your answers in advance :) I have been on Effexor XR for a while. The doctor wants to start me on the Wellbutrin not the Effexor. I just wanted to know if there was anybody else out there that took this combination. I would never start out on Effexor at 225 - I started at 37.5 and then gradually stepped up. I cannot say anything bad about Effexor XR - it has helped me trmemndously. I ask that you not answer this question in negativity. Thanks.

cameraman replied: "ARE YOU STILL TAKING ALL OF THE MEDS LISTED DAILY? HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TAKING THESE MEDS? I TRUST THAT YOUR CAREGIVER IS AWARE OF THESE SYMTOMS ABOVE AND HAS SUGGESTED FOLLOW UP WITH THEM OR ANOTHER CAREGIVER. GOOD SUPPORT IS VERY IMPORTANT ESPECIALLY WHEN CHANGING MOOD ADJUSTING MEDICATIONS. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF FOLKS OUT THERE TAKING THE SAME TYPE OF MEDS."

coffee74 replied: "I have been taking Effexor XR for over ten years. I started at 35 mg, went to 75, then 150 (which was too much for my body) so I'm back down to 75. I think 225 was WAY too high to start you off with - anxiety is better treated by something different/stronger. Please understand and listen carefully!!! Do not abruptly remove an anti-depressant from your system. The side effects are horrendous. I hate to say it but unless you are made of steel, you have made a life-long committment. After ten years, I would much rather try to control my mood and feelings with diet and exercise and other self-help. Of course discuss this with your doctor but if you are up to it, please try to rid your system of the medication by slowly decreasing your intake. You are much stronger than you know - you just have to dig deeper. Believe me, I still wallow in "lack of motivation" but start small... one load of laundry instead of 4, one chapter instead of 7, a short walk, a hot bath, a new hobby (beading, knitting, painting). Panic disorders are much more physical than mental - try breathing exercises or yoga or naps. I would give anything to not have this medication in my system and am taking SMALL steps to rid myself for good. Best wishes!"

Angelia replied: "I used to take that combination. I stopped because my body seems to adapt to antidepressants and the meds just don't work for me after awhile. Anyway, that was the best combo of medicines for my depression for a long time...maybe a year or longer? That was the longest any meds had worked for me at that point. When those meds worked for me, I felt great. Even though it stopped working for me, it might be helpful to you. Hope this helps."

300 Mg's of wellbutrin xr and 15 Mg's of adderall? My doctor has just increased my wellbutrin to 300 mg from 150 mg & I have also been put on 15mg of adderall to take in the afternoon while at work .I am on these drugs for my low concentration levels at work as they tend to fade after 4 hours of being awake and I find it hard to think clearly. I've also been diagnosed for deppression.Has anyone tried this combo & what effects did they have on you? presently my dosages of 150 mg's and 15 of adderall were not really helping my concentration levels or energy levels late in the work day. I was wondering what your experiences were. i was on 150 mg's for about 6 months and the adderall i have been on for 6 weeks now

Ben replied: "I have taken both of these drugs, and they are usually not prescribed together. Wellbutrin and Adderall affect the same neurotransmitters in the brain, but to different extents. Taking both of them at the same time will increase your chances of side effects, most likely nervousness, overstimulation, loss of appetite, and increases in blood pressure and heart rate. Ask your doctor about taking Adderall by itself, but a larger dose."

baghdadcatcash replied: "hullo in the Field of psychiatry, we do not tend to prescribe more than one anti depressant at a time, to avoid the synergistic function of side effects, but in your case a stimulant with anti depressant, which is a poor practice, the best way is to give single drug and wait for the goal to be reached in time. dr solo"

lil sammy replied: "Holy crap, I'd be swinging off the ceiling fan on that combo! I took adderall in the past, and it worked fine, but I lost too much weight. I now take Wellbutrin, and just upped to 300. What I do take keep it going throught the day is to take I pill when I wake up and one after lunch, at about 2. That seems to help a lot. Just something you can try if what you have makes you jittery. And Wellbutrin killed 2 birds with one stone for me with ADHD and mild depression. Good luck:)"

I am taking Wellbutrin SR and tapering off Effexor XR, Should I taper off the Wellbutrin at the same time? I am down to 37.5 mg of Effexor XR, I was taking 225mg, I am also on Wellbutin SR 150. I have a hard time sleeping and I am dizzy and ache all over. Does anyone know if I should taper off the Wellbutrin at the same time, since it has always caused a problem with my sleep? I am waiting to get into the doctor. I can't believe I ever started taking these drugs, I feel like I need to drive myself to the hospital.

artcoreguitar replied: "You are already down to 37.5 mg of Effexor, if the Wellbutrin is keeping you awake, I think you might consider already tapering it as well. Maybe you can take your usuall morning dose, and taper any evening dose you're taking. Check with your dr./therapist. You might be able to take a full morning dose of the Wellbutrin sR, take a regular Wellbutrin in the afternoon, (not as long- lasting as the SR), and maybe they can prescribe something wuch as trazadone to knock you out at night, if you need the benifits from Wellbutrin. There are options. Good luck."

slev43 replied: "You should never increase or decrease a drug without talking to your doctor first. I am on Wellbutrin and have also been on effexor xr and trust me, if you don't take one or the other for a few days you can really feel the effects. I would call your dr.'s office again and tell them that you're having these side effects. Tapering off any drug like that on your own could be very dangerous. If you can't get your dr. on the phone than go to the ER if it gets really bad. Hope this helps."

I was just prescribed and took effexor xr for the first time today, experiences? I'm worried because I've heard so many bad things about this drug, but became desperate enough with increasing depression that I decided to try it. I'm already on Wellbutrin 150 mgs and that helps somewhat, but needed something else to work with it. Please share youre experiences with effexor as I'm pretty intimidated, but want so much to feel better. Thank you !!

AlleY G replied: "I am on this medication I take it for Panic attacks, I have been on this medication for 7 MONTHS , in the beginning I felt a little light headed but I have had no problems, all of my attacks are all but gone, the medication took away the physical problems but I am still working on the mental part of it."

combackkidxxx replied: "if you do not already know, antidepressants only work so much of the time that you need to do other things to sorta change your lifestyle and remove things that are stressful and cc an trigger your depression. i haven't tried that, i have tried lexapro though...but i'm bipolar, so it only made me worse. my girlfriends mom takes that, my girlfriend has taken effexor in the past too......my girlfriends mom is okay a lot of the time, so from my opinion, it helps. do you take wellbutrin still? i don't believe that taking multiple antidepressants will really help to get you on your way to recovery....because my mom takes like 2 diff. kinds of antidepressants and yet she still is pretty moody, but that's probably because she's old..or she's going through menopause (she takes wellbutrin and somethin else).....but anyways. don't be intimidated....the only thing that will probably hurt you drastically with that stuff is if you go off of it cold turkey. my girlfriend did and she had to go to the ER...and after that she hadta take Xanax for a week to get better. but also, if you are a teenager that can increase your depression.....but it may not... if that doesn't work, talk to your doc about getting off of that and wellbutrin and take zoloft or lexapro. when one med doesn't work, it may just be because it's too low of a dose for you.... i take lamictal for my bipolar disorder...i also take omega 3 supplements and multi vitamins just to make sure i am okay everyday because when you are all moody you tend to eat a lot ya know? so if you're like me, make sure you take multivitamins and get a lot of exercise. omega 3 or fish oil supplements work to reduce irritability and depression. if you like fish though, eat it a lot!! i hope this helps you....just remember, stay away from stressful things, make sure you get your exercise and cut back from sat. fats...especially food like chocolate....when you're depressed, all it makes you do is get more depressed.....take multivitamins daily, eat fish at least 3 times a week or take omega 3/fish oil supplements....i take Bayer Nutritional Science, it has omega 3, Ginkgo biloba(which helps increase your blood flow), and something else that is a fatty acid that works to help brain function. research that....it's like 10 bucks at target. hope this helps, remember, a sharp mind is a safe mind!"

msbeckymurphy replied: "I took this medication over a year. It worked great for a while. I started noticing I wasn't having any feelings that I should of had. I tried coming off 2 or 3 times before actually getting off, but it was pure agony. The withdrawls were so bad I thought of nothing but killing myself. I could not concentrate or even drive. I had memory lapse. I would cry at the silliest things. it took 7 months before beginning to feel normal. I always advise everyone not to take effexor. Please do research on this medication. I wish I had."

Tapering off Effexor XR: How can I stop the brain shivers? I am tapering off 37.5 of effexor XR. I was taking every other day then opening up the capsules ad dumping out 1/2 of it. I have not taken anything in three days and I am irritatble and the brain shivers are terrible. Is there anything natural I can take? I am so crabby at my kids. I want off this stuff. I am also on 150 Wellbutrin xl

Josh B replied: "unfortunately your just going into have to ride it out should only last 3 4 days and i was on it too and i now how it feels"

Anyone had to quit Effexor and/or Wellbutrin cold turkey? I have been on Wellbutrin SR 300 for about 3 yrs, and Effexor XR 150 for about 16 months. my husband changed jobs & his new job has no insurance, I can get insurance through my job but not until Aug 1. I called my doc & told him the situation, asked for any samples but they didnt have any. their best advice was they'd call in the rxs to Costco bcuz that was supposed 2b the cheapest. when i called the pharmacy found out it was still going 2b $150 for each rx, for 1 month (that was w/generic welb but there was no gen eff). anyway i didnt have $$ to buy them, w/husband just changing jobs & we've also just moved. So i've been without the meds for about 1 week now. ive felt pretty nauseated, dizzy, sweaty, today had a bit of a crying episode over seemingly nothing.... i'm just wondering if ne1 has had the same situation & how long did it take for the withdrawal type symptoms to subside?

susan g replied: "I was on celexa for about 3 years and quit cold turkey too. I had a lot of withdrawl, and anxiety for the first little bit, but then it subsided. It is suggested to never quit these medications cold turkey ( I didn't know this), but try to wean off of them. Hang in there, it will get better. We become addicted to these medications, and it takes time to get over it."

John F replied: "I know the feeling. The best, cheapest and easiest remedy is exercise - at least 1 hour per day, every day. This will help with your withdrawal symptoms and your depression. Eat lots of turkey, fish, bananas, flax seeds and soy protein. Avoid fatty, fried foods and junk food. Try Kava, Valerian, or Chamomile to stay calm. Take a B-complex vitamin supplement each day. Use mediation, prayer or other relaxation techniques. Get back on the meds as soon as you're able and pressure your government to offer universal health care so you won't have to worry about losing coverage again!!!"

oceanlady580 replied: "i am going thru the exact same thing right now with the effexor XR it was awful. it was like going thru a street drug withdrawal i was sick to my stomach, i was hot then cold, irritable, one minute i was laughing hysterically and the next crying over something so simple it was like it was a tragady. i was broke so i could not take it for 2 weeks. the symptoms hit you hard and get worse. also i had massive headaches when i woke up. i am back on it and NEVER do i want to go off of it again. is there a clinic you could go to in the mean time? can you ask your dr. for some klonipin or adivan till the 1st of august. if it gets unbearable go to the ER and tell them you are sick and hopefully they can hook you up with enough effexor till the 1st. good luck i feel for you"

jacko replied: "See depression treatments, at. (.net.nz/~shaneris) on page 2: read that page, then go to "the road back" and antidepressant websites. Several types of generic antidepressants, like fluoxetine, are available for $4 from WalMart: see your doctor. View (genericdrugslist.pdf) [I had to use the WebFerret search engine to access this: Netscape & IE didn't work]."

Kat replied: "I quit EFFEXOR cold turkey because my doctor hadn't told me how to taper off of it. It was bad - for the first time ever I suffered with vertigo and I was desperately depressed. Once I talked to my doctor and she gave me samples with instructions to taper off in about 3 weeks I felt much better. I started taking wellbutrin during this same time. Sorry you feel bad and I don't know how long it takes to get through this."

Matt B replied: "Unfortunately, if you try to quit cold turkey you have to be prepared to go through hell. I know, I successfully got off of it, but I took time. What you need to do is reduce your intake slowly. I would start by going from 300mg to 150mg for the next 1-2 months. This will cut your costs in half and give you body time to adjust before the next taper. In the meantime, you need to find a better source for meds. I happen to know a site that sells cheap generics manufactured in India. I checked out the price on Effexor XR for you, 100 150mg capsules for $99, a little cheaper per pill in greater bulk. If you cut you dose in half (they sell 75mgs too) you will make it for a little over six months on a hundred bucks. They also sell Wellbutrin, 260 150mg pills for $94. Thats over 4 months at you current dose or almost 8 months if you cut it in half. I have ordered from this site before, they are awesome, they deliver fast considering foreign and all the drugs I have purchased have been good quality. I will not post the site here, but if you e-mail me I will reply with the link and send you a write up I did about how I got off Effexor step by step. Good luck."
